Outings and Activities

Pittsburgh Trip: Last weekend Rev. Kleyn and a group of Young Adults traveled to Pittsburgh. On Saturday we did some work on the church property -- built a retaining wall, put new electrical service on the house, cleaned windows, scraped rusty hand rails, etc. Sunday we traveled to Franklin where Rev. Kleyn preached and in the evening we were with the saints in Pittsburgh for worship. The visit was profitable for us, as well as the saints in Pittsburgh.

Denomination News

Calls: Rev. J. Slopsema (First GR) is considering the call to Grace PRC. Providence has a trio of Candidate H. Bleyenberg, Rev. J. Laning (Hope, GR) and Rev. M. Vander Wal (Redland, CA).  They plan to call August 26.  Calvary has a trio of Candidate H. Bleyenberg, Rev. Ron Hanko (Lynden, WA), and Rev. Bill Langerak (Southeast).  Let us also remember Candidate Bleyenberg, Rev. Dick and Rev. Houck in our prayers as they await calls.

DMC News: In recent months the Domestic Mission Committee has been corresponding with a group of four families in Tucson, AZ who are interested in our churches starting a work in their city. These people, through personal study, have become very familiar with the PRC and are also giving a good witness in their community on a personal level and with the internet. The DMC will be sending a delegation of Rev. Van Overloop, Missionary Brummel and Dave Rau to visit with these people September 11-15 and to investigate this field of labor. Let us pray for this group, for the delegation that will visit them, and for an open door to labor with them.

Philippines: Rev. Smit and his brother, Peter Smit, are presently in the Philippines in behalf of our churches. Prof. Hanko will also be traveling to the Philippines in the coming weeks to labor there. Synod 2008 gave the FMC and Doon PRC the mandate to find as much pulpit supply as possible for the saints in the Philippines while they remain vacant. The FMC and Doon are looking to send a different minister to the Philippines each month for several weeks and have made this request to all the pastors and consistories. After a year and a half without a pastor, the Berean PRCP has a great need for a pastor. Let us remember them in our prayers.

Myanmar Update: The Council of Hope PRC continues to administer cyclone relief to the PR Churches in Myanmar at the rate of $5,000 per month.  The funds continue to be used for food and medical expenses.  To date, two houses have been rebuilt and one more is in the process of being rebuilt.  Continue to keep the needs of the saints there in your prayers as they continue to face many difficulties.

Quote for Contemplation

Tell me, if you can, of anyone who ever reached heaven except through "the narrow door."  I know of none.  From Abel, the first who died, down to the end of the list of Bible names, I see none saved by any way but faith in Christ.  Tell me, if you can, of any one who ever entered through the narrow door without "making every effort."  I know of none except those who die in infancy.  He that would win heaven must be content to fight for it.  Tell me, if you can, of any one who ever strove earnestly to enter, and failed to succeed.  I know of none.  I believe that however weak and ignorant men may be, they never seek life heartily and conscientiously, at the right door, and are left without an answer of peace. Tell me, if you can, of any one who ever entered through the narrow door, and was sorry afterwards.  I know of none.  I believe the footsteps on the threshold of the door are all one way.  All have found it a good thing to serve Christ, and have never regretted taking up His cross.  If these things are true, seek Christ without delay! ~ J.C. Ryle
